GETTING STARTED

What is ASHRM Exchange?
ASHRM Exchange is a web-based community exclusively for ASHRM members to connect and share resources and expertise with other healthcare risk management professionals.  The main features include The Exchange, ASHRM's risk management eGroup, or listserv, and the Resource Library, where policies, procedures and other documents are stored.

How do I get started on ASHRM Exchange?
Join The Exchange, a community group dedicated to healthcare risk management and patient safety issues that includes its own listserv and resource library.  To join, go to the The Exchange home page. On the right, click the link for "Join Community." There are also dedicated community groups for New ASHRM Members (join here) and Chapter Leaders (join here). 

How do I see or change groups I am enrolled in?
Go to the Groups and Networks page. Groups you are enrolled in are displayed by default. To join or leave a group, click on the group name, then click on the link at right for "Join/Leave Community."

MESSAGES

How do I post a message?
Go to the Post Message page. Select the group you want to reach.  Complete the subject line and the body of the message and click on "Send" at the bottom of the page.  The message will automatically be sent to all members of the group. 

How do I reply to a message?
Open the message to which you want to reply, either in your email inbox or in the listserv archives.  On the right side, select the link for "Reply to eGroup" to reply to the group, or "Reply to Sender," to reply to the individual. Complete the message fields and click "Send."

How do I attach a file to my message?
Start your message.  At the bottom of the message body, click on the button for "Attach." Locate the file on your hard drive you want to send.  In Step 1, enter the title and description for the document.  In Step 2, click "Browse" to locate the file on your computer and click "Upload" to attach the file.  In Step 3, select tags that describe your document (if desired).  Click "Finish" then send your message.  These steps classify documents and help users find them efficiently. 

How do I search archived messages?
Go the Listserv search page. To search by keyword, enter your text into the field for "Search Term." To narrow your search by group or date, select desired options on the page. To search archived messages chronologically, click on a link at the right under "Quick Search" to display all recent messages (from the Last 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days). Click on a subject line to open an individual message. Use the links at right to reply or take other actions.

How do I see all replies to a specific message?
Locate the message following the steps above. Open the message by clicking on the subject line. At right, click on link that says "View Thread." All messages sent in reply to that specific message will be displayed.

How do I find messages I have sent?
Go to My Messages. Messages you have sent in the last 30 days will be displayed. Options to edit, delete, resend or forward are at the right.

How do I change the delivery and format settings for messages?
Go to My Subscriptions. For format, select either "Text" or "HTML" format. Options for message delivery can be customized by eGroup (or listserv):
• Real Time => messages are sent immediately to your primary ASHRM email address
• Daily Digest => a digest format of all messages to the list sent every 24 hours
• PDA =>optimized for digital devices
• No emails => messages are not delivered but you are still subscribed and can review messages and post to the list via the Exchange web site
• Unsubscribe => removes you completely from the list

RESOURCES

How do I search for resources?
Go to the Resource Library search page.  To search by keyword, enter text into the field for “Search Term” (e.g., "consent" or "disclosure").  To search an individual library, go to line for “Search Library,” click arrow at right to expand choices, and select library you wish to search.  To search by subject area, go to line for “Search Tags,” click arrow at right to expand choices, and select tags that apply to your search.  You can combine keyword search with any of the other search options.

How do I post a resource to the library?
Go to the Add Document page and follow these steps:
• Step 1: Enter a title and description and select library to upload to (select "The Exchange" for risk management materials). Click "Save."
• Step 2: Under "Select File," click "Browse" to locate the file on your computer then click "Upload."
• Step 3: Select tags that accurately describe your document and will help other members locate the resource. Click "Continue" to finish uploading your document.
