Happy New Year! Hopefully, you and your families all had a joyful and peaceful holiday season! Now that we are in 2025, I can’t tell you how excited I am to get to work as ASHRM’s 2025 President. Of course, before I do that, I would like to recognize the tremendous work of your 2024 President, Tatum O’Sullivan. Among her many accomplishments, Tatum guided the ASHRM Advisory Board through the process of developing the 2025-2027 ASHRM Strategic Plan, which we will be officially rolling out soon. This new strategic plan continues the momentum from the 2022-2024 Strategic Plan and sets up ASHRM, and its members, for success through 2027 and beyond. Thank you, Tatum for your mentorship and your leadership!

Of course, as amazing as Tatum is, she would not be able to accomplish all that ASHRM has accomplished in the last year alone. She was supported by a fantastic Advisory Board and hundreds of ASHRM volunteers. I would also like to recognize and thank our outgoing Immediate Past President, Becky Cady, and Advisory Board member Rodney Melton for the outstanding work they did while serving ASHRM. Their service is truly appreciated. We also have one Advisory Board member, Katie DuFresne, who is saying “goodbye/hello.” While she is leaving us in her Advisory Board role, I am thrilled that she is re-joining us as the 2025 ASHRM President-Elect. Also joining the Advisory Board in 2025 are Myka Whitman and Janell Forget. I am looking forward to working with all of you!

Although I feel that many of you know me, here’s a little bit about my background. I am an attorney by profession and have been in health care risk management and compliance for twenty-three years with a few different traditional hospitals and health systems in the metropolitan Detroit area, which is where I live. I am currently the Director of Compliance and Privacy for Medically Home Group, which is a hospital at home provider for health care systems across the country. I have been an ASHRM member since 2002 and I have volunteered on many ASHRM committees and task forces since at least 2010, and I served on the ASHRM Advisory Board from 2020-2022. I have also been privileged to contribute to several ASHRM publications and author or co-author “Case Law Update” in the ASHRM Journal of Health Care Risk Management since 2020.

Among the cool things I get to do as President is to tell you some of the great things that are going on within ASHRM so that you can get the most out of your membership. I already mentioned that we will be rolling out the 2025-2027 ASHRM Strategic Plan very shortly. I’m very excited about the goals of the plan and I can’t wait to reveal the plan to the membership and show you how this plan sets up ASHRM, and you as ASHRM members, for success well into the future.

In addition, hopefully you have received notices, or have seen on the ASHRM website, that registration is open for the ASHRM Academy, which is March 17-22 in Orlando, Florida (and what better time is there to be in Orlando?). At the ASHRM Academy, you can take any (or all) of the ASHRM HRM modules, the CPHRM prep course, the patient safety certificate program, or the enterprise risk management certificate program. Check the ASHRM website for more information or to register. Also, be sure to check the website for exciting and informative upcoming webinars to assist you in your professional development and where you can earn CEUs.

I’m looking forward to being able to meet and talk to as many if you as I can by visiting your state chapter events throughout the year or seeing you at ASHRM events or committee meetings over the next year and finding out how we can collaborate to elevate you as a risk professional and make ASRHM the most effective organization it can be for you. I hope to see you all soon!
