Dermal Piercings & Surgery

We are seeing more and more patients who have dermal piercings.  Apparently these piercings are placed under a patient's skin and cannot be removed without opening the skin.  We are concerned about using cautery on these patients for fear of burns.  Has any one else looked into this issue?  Do you have a policy regarding performing procedures that may include cautery on patients with dermal piercings?
